WHAT IS THEATRE-IN-EDUCATION (TIE)?

TIE involves the exploration of an educational topic or question through the lens of Drama. A TIE program includes a performance by professional actors that stimulates the active participation of young people in the real world of the characters and issues explored by the play. This challenges young people to feel, think, interact and do, within a dramatic context. TIE involves careful research into the particular age group the programme is designed for, as well as appropriate linkage to school curricula. TIE is very different from other theatre forms, i.e. Children’s and Community Theatre.
